Augmented reality is a very exciting and eye catching way to present data about a users surroundings, by superimposing images, text and sounds over the physical space that the user is occupying or surveying.

With augmented-reality smartphone apps, informative graphics appear on the screen as you point your camera at different items. For example, when you move your camera to display a city street, the phone will overlay a description of each shop onto the cameras screen display as it moves over the shop.

Examples of Augmented Reality Apps are:

Layar is a mobile app for discovering information about the world around you. Layar displays digital information called “layers” into your smartphone’s field of vision.

Wikitude will overlay the camera’s display and the objects you look at with additional interactive content and information
